This post is an anniversary gift from me to Jan, and from her to me. 45 years and going strong!
Rust Is the Paint of Time
Time and nature working together give us growing plants, blossoms, growing trees. They also collaborate to decay things left in the arms of nature and cared for by time. This kind of work is visible on a grand scale in nature, canyons, riverbeds, rock formations, and the like. It is also visible on a less grand scale on things left in the open over time, like old cars in a junkyard.
We visited the North Smithfield Auto Recycling, aka the junkyard! There are old relics from the times when they were powerful machines and status symbols. Now, they sit side by side telling each other memories from their storied past. The yard is full of vehicles where one can find parts for restoration or inexpensive replacement for newer cars.
Memory Lane
You can see famous marquees in various stages of decay and rust on Memory Lane. I do not know what attracts photographers to decay of various kinds. I find the experience interesting partly because of their ability to take me to earlier times, like time travel; and in part due to the ability of time and nature to create unexpected abstractions using the vehicles’ metal, paint, rust, and other parts. On these materials, time seems to paint with rust!
Below are some of the photographs Jan and I took, they seem to complement one another! And many more from the past visits.
Markus
Congratulations to the 45 years, Cemal – in our time this is quite an achievement!
And I enjoyed the images. They certainly do what photographs can do best: Show (and keep) how things look(ed) like, And this way, they allow us to rediscover hidden beauty, hopefully even teach me how to open my eyes a bit wider.

Thank you Markus, for stopping by and for your kind words. We appreciate it.

RAMAZAN KAMARI
Esenlikler diliyorum.
