Our friend, and highly accomplished ceramic artist Nermin Kura will have a new exhibit in Ankara titled The Oracle’s Horizons. As I write this article, she is in Ankara busy with the details of the upcoming exhibit.
Nermin Kura
Nermin has just retired from Roger Williams University in Rhode Island. She was a professor at the School of Architecture, Art, and Historic Preservation. She also taught ceramics in the Feinstein School of Humanities, Arts and Education’s Department of Visual Arts. In addition to her busy teaching schedule, she devoted ample time to ceramics, had many solo exhibits, and participated in group shows.
The Oracle’s Horizons
Her latest exhibit will be on display at Gallery Nev in Ankara starting on May 9, 2024. The opening statement of the show reads:
In ancient world traditions, oracles were consulted for their wisdom, foresight and guidance on matters pertaining to human actions, seasonal cycles and natural phenomena.
In this vein of thought, each of the works in this exhibition explore ways to manifest the mysteries of existence, the sanctity of the earth, energies that infuse our biosphere, its cyclical evolutions, and the shared oneness of the breath of life.

Nermin Kura
Her work is highly organic, sensual, and fluid. The plasticity of clay becomes her grammar and the connection to nature provides the vocabulary of her art. Using various tools and techniques, Nermin creates ceramic pieces that reflect her unique vision and talent.
I saw a preliminary catalog containing the pieces in the upcoming exhibit. I have seen her work in shows and photographs, but The Oracle’s Horizons will present new visions of nature mirroring in clay.
