Elif and Mina came for a visit on August 10, 2015, for ten days. Mina has grown quite a bit, she has shed her childish form and assumed a young girl appearance. The weather has been quite hot, so we all try to stay indoors with the AC on except for some limited outings.
Our first excursion was to visit the American Girl doll store in Natick mall, about a 75-minute drive. Mina has two of these dolls and I know the one she brought with her, Grace. We wanted to have lunch in the American Girl cafeteria surrounded by constant reminders of the American Girl culture. It seems to be a great marketing success, not only do they sell the dolls, but there are an amazing array of accessories and even a hair salon where your doll can get her hair done!
The cafeteria was mainly in pink, including the aprons of the waiters. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own dolls, so there was a stack of booster chairs to comfortably seat your doll next to you as we did with Grace. The food was equally colorful as you will see in the photographs. After lunch we wandered around in the store, Mina wanted to get a small accessory with the money she saved herself. Nana got a little tired and we sat down and waited for the girls to return and then drove back home.
Saturday afternoon Jan’s cousin David came to visit and see Elif and Mina. Yesterday morning the girls wanted to go to Jamestown and have lunch and wander around the beach. The morning started a little late and we ended up having lunch at Cozy Grill, a nice local diner and then drove down to Jamestown. It was a hot day, but the small amount of breeze made it tolerable for the short while we stayed there. Elif and Mina collected seashells on the seashore, we watched the harbor and passersby. A young couple with their two blue nose pit bulls were kind enough to pose for a photo. The dogs were gorgeous and very well-behaved.
After a short stay at the beach, we drove to Beavertail Lighthouse on the island and drove home. After a long day and a little rest at home, we went out to our local Chinese restaurant to close the day. Upon return home, Mina wanted to finish a movie she started the night before. After that, we watched a short part of another program before retiring to bed.
Here are some photographs of these outings.
