Busy Spring and Summer
Last spring and summer were a bit hectic for me with two cataracts, and one sinus operation, and continuous problems with asthma that persists. However, both Jan and I (more Jan than I really) managed to enjoy the yard. I stayed indoors with air-conditioning when the weather was hot or humid, often both. This summer was hotter and more humid than in previous years and both conditions lasted much longer than usual. Then came Hurricane Irene, and other kinds of problems emerged.
Jan Cared for the Garden
The garden fared generally quite well. Jan took care of the maintenance, planting some new flowers in pots, even vegetables. Crocosmia Lucifer, both in the front and the back returned very lushly this year attracting bees and hummingbirds. Liatris graced the front with its tall stems, and Coreopsis dazzled with its yellow blankets in the front yard. The Siberian Iris in the back was quite showy with its elegant blossoms and graceful foliage. And next to one bunch of irises was the over-grown, lush Hosta.
Jan and I wanted to share our garden with you with the photographs we took over the spring-summer 2011. Here they are, starting with Jan’s collection:
And these are mine:

Jan, very well done. I particularly like the image of the spider with the egg sac and the yellow coneflower.
Cemal, i very much like the crocosmia with the out-of-focus blossoms mirroring teh stem, and the patter of spikes of the oconeflower with the bee is almost hypnotic.

Great flower pics!
Jan-Love the cone flower with the green wasp. I’ve seen a ton wasps this year, but not any green ones. Its been an incredible year for bees as well. We had a bunch.
Cemal-We added a few Crocosmia throughout the yard this year in an attempt to attract more hummingbirds, but to no avail. This year was not a great hummngbird year.

Thanks Dennis, Sal, for stopping by and enjoying our garden vicariously. We enjoyed the show of flowers and the frequent visitors to the flowers.
