This will be a mixed content of public art and our outings with Mina, our granddaughter, visiting us. She arrived last Friday and will return home on Monday. She took one photography course last year and will take another next year. So, she took her camera to a couple of our expeditions.
Fair warning, there are a lot of photographs from all three of us

Continued Public Art Hunt
On the Fourth of July, we decided to visit a few public art sites and photograph them because the streets would be empty on this national holiday. My expectation of minimal crowds and ample parking was correct as we arrived at the first stop on Richmond Street.
Antidote Seeking
Created on the wall of Tiny Bar at the corner of Richmond and Point Streets was a colorful mural, Antidote Seeking, by the Boston artist Lena Mac (Instagram). Rich, dark colors combined with symbolism created an eye-catching (no pun intended) piece of work. Since the courtyard was set up with tables and umbrellas, we had to take photographs at tight angles, sometimes with obstructions.
Click on the images to see them larger, uncropped, and read their titles.

Liquid Sunshine (Poured) and Self Reflection
On the same patio were two interesting sculptures, Liquid Sunshine (Poured) and Self Reflection, by Michael Alfano (Instagram). Sculpted in clay ad then cast in metal, one piece presents a pensive, reflective face hidden among the bushes. The other is multiple profiles combined into one. I wish we could move the polished metal heater a few feet away!

Stay Strong, Fight On
A little further down was Stay Strong, Fight On by Ryan Adams (Instagram). Strong graphics hid the title message written in the spirit of graffiti art. The use of red and green segments close to, and sometimes even touching, each other creates simultaneous contrast, as described by Chevreul. Because of the holiday, we parked almost next to the public art wall.

Misty Blue
Created by Andrew Hem (Instagram), Misty Blue stood tall on a wall behind a parking lot. Due to the holiday, the parking lot was empty. The public art depicted a girl caught in thought in the woods with fireflies all around. The moody colors enhanced the girl’s moodiness. We took advantage of the empty parking lot and took pictures of ourselves.

Del Pasado Al Futuro
I saw a large mural not on our agenda while photographing Misty Blue. It was a short drive, and we parked right in front of Del Pasado Al Futuro by Keir Johnston and Linda Fernandez (Instagram). The organization behind this public art piece is Amber Art and Design. One of the collaborators on this piece, Keir Johnston, is listed as a co-founder of the Philadelphia organization. According to the description on their site, the art piece seems to celebrate “the history of the land before colonization and the development of the city.”

It was getting a little too hot for all of us, and we decided to return home. Before I switch the subject to another outing, here is the updated locations map.
Earlier Outing
The weather has not been pleasant lately. It is either too hot or raining. But, we found an opening to take Mina to one of our local parks, Conimicut Point Park. It is close to our house and even has a beach. You might have read about it in an earlier post, as Jan and I enjoy going there for a nice breeze and a view of the ocean.
The park was quite crowded, and some were even swimming. We walked around a little, and Jan tested a borrowed “rollator” walker with wheels. Mina got a picture of her zooming on her rollator! No, you don’t ride on it; use it as support while you walk. It has a seat if she gets tired.
Until next time, take it easy! I will soon share the day we went on a Boston Duck Tour; stay tuned.

It was great to see you exploring Public Art in Providence. Your granddaughter seems to be following in your footsteps. Beware of the heat. It has a way of sneaking up on you

A very nice bunch of lovely takes. Thanks for sharing. I must admit I enjoyed the last bunch most, including the more vitamin D intake inducing hatless exposure :)
Take care and best regards to you all.

No wonder my doctor told me to take Vitamin D! However, I have very sensitive skin up there because of vitiligo. Even if I get tanned with careful exposure, it looks like a map on top of my head. All said we have had a fun week with Mina. She will return home tomorrow. Take care, Haluk,

Bill Clark

Thanks, Bill. You are right; this small state offers so many things to see. As the weather permits, we will try to cover more ground.
