A few weeks ago, the Festival Ballet Providence dancers Vilia Putrius and Mindaugas Bauzys performed a very nice blend of theater and ballet, Pietà. They depicted in dance, motion, and acting the famous sculpture with the same name by Michelangelo in the St. Peter’s Basilica (*) as if it came to life. With the music by Gustav Mahler and the choreography by Jurijus Smoryginas, the couple gave the viewers a visual treat. I had the pleasure of photographing the live performance, and now I am pleased to share the following album with you.
The related good news is that Vilia and Mindaugas will perform Pietà again in the Up Close on Hope performances on October 25 & 26, and November 1 & 2, 8 & 9. (Click on the image on the right to see a short animation from the performance) See the full program with a collection of ballet pieces that will please all tastes, featuring works by local choreographers we have come to learn and love, like Plotnikov and Birkadze, and Harootian. You will enjoy being touching close to the dancers, hearing them breathe, seeing them sweat, and you will also support one of the finest art programs in Rhode Island, Festival Ballet Providence. It will be a great night out with a chance to meet the dancers during the intermission reception. See you there!
