Today Mina decided to use one of the gifts Santa brought to her and get her ears pierced. She wanted all of us to go to the place with a little apprehension but a good deal of interest. I told them I would drive them to Warwick Mall, where the ear-piercing place was but wanted no part of the actual piercing. I saw them enter the mall through the food court, just behind the replica of the Independent Man that sits on top of the Rhode Island State House. The man helping with the traffic saw me with my camera and pointed to himself, and I pointed at the statue. He walked to the statue and assumed a similar pose with my encouragement. I entered the food court and saw a young woman sitting and texting with a stone-studded hat. I asked if I could take a photograph of the hat and she agreed, even lifted her head a little with a slight smile. Then I killed some time taking photographs of the carousel, the food court, the people around. A little later, the girls all came and we drove the Newport Creamery for lunch. Mina told me all about the ear-piercing process, reasonably automated and apparently quick, but I am glad I have just heard about it!
