Oya Berk, 1946 – 2020

March 16, 2020 by A. Cemal Ekin
Oya Berk, 1946-2020

Yesterday, we heard the passing of our dear friend Oya. We visited her last October when we were in Istanbul and even then she was suffering to some extent. She was a linguist, a teacher, a friend, especially a close one to my late sister Binnaz. We will miss her but will find comfort in that she is no longer suffering. I took the following photographs back in October 2019 during our visit with her. I told her that I would take a couple of photographs and she said: “don’t show them to me.” And, I have not until today.

Jan and I express our heartfelt condolences to all Oya’s family, friends, students.

Rest in peace, Oya.

        Dear Cemal bey,
Oya Berk and Binnaz Melin both were my teachers at Moran ‘72-‘77 era and it was a privilege to have such “ ahead of their time” teachers in our lives. They taught us to speak and more importantly think in English.
They will always be remembered. May they R.I.P.
Thank you so much for posting the photos.

Thank you, Sinan, for your very kind words for both of them. And, they deserved your words. Good people, good friends, left us short time apart.

Take care, be well, stay safe,

          Cemal

I worked with Oya at Marmara University in the 1990s. She was a person of great dignity and a great teacher-I learned a lot from her. I am so sad she has passed away. Nur içinde yatsın.

    Cemal Beyefendi,

Belki oradaki fotograflardan kullanmaniz olasi.
