The “Hear This” section on the sidebar started with a music theme featuring the links between music and photography. Later a few announcements came along about happenings. Here they are for future reference. (Opening photograph: Paul Strand-Parmesan)
We visited the opening reception of a photography exhibit in Providence this evening, 3/17/2016. Peter Miller Fine Art gallery presents two photographers, Peter Miller, and Brett Henrikson. Peter’s “Places” visits the streets in Providence and San Francisco while Brett’s work will push your imagination as you view his wet plate collodion prints. Read more on PMFA and Brett Henrikson website.
Paul Strand Exhibit
A Paul Strand exhibit starts in London. Although it is in a far away place, you can enjoy a few selections from it and read an article in The Guardian. Strand is one of the great photographers and a leader in the modernism movement.
Be Friends with Failure
A very nicely done cartoon explanation of what I have been repeating for decades, to my students in class and to my photographer friends. Take failure to heart, use it to your advantage rather than avoiding it. See the full series
Ansel Adams The Pianist
Most photographers are familiar with Adams and his majestic photographs, may even remember that he studies piano. Here, I would like to share with you a video in which you can see and hear Adams performing his other art along with the one he is famous for.
From the heart of Harlem, DeCarava documented and chronicled the life and music. I have a copy of his The Music I Saw which is a delight to the eye as the music he saw must have been to him.
Read more about Roy DeCarava.
Danny Clinch follows on the footsteps of Roy DeCarava photographing mainly music and musicians but also includes in his repertoire travel, editorial, and commercial work. You will enjoy viewing his work and how well he connects with his subjects. By the way, he also plays music!
