Classes are under way, Alex Lantz leading

Festival Ballet Providence a New Season Begins

September 9, 2013 by A. Cemal Ekin

Classes are under way, Alex Lantz leading

Festival Ballet Providence started its new season with a great list of ballets, Orchis is coming back in March 2014 for a repeat performance. Of course, what makes the program possible is a group of great dancers, choreographers, teachers, staff, and all the people who remain behind the scenes. The dancers’ first order of business is to get back into shape which requires practice, practice, practice …

Along with the company dancers, the students are back in earnest. They too must focus, practice, fumble, practice, looking good, practice …

A few days ago, I was at the FBP and took some photographs to show the continuous effort that will mark the rest of their year as the dancers, students, teachers, coaches, keep practicing. You will be amazed how graceful and effortless they will look on stage, as strained as they may look in practice and rehearsals. That is the transformative nature of dance. One fumble, one fall, one wrong move, even a thousand of each will be replaced by that graceful move you will see on stage.

One of the studios looks to have a new coat of paint and a new floor.
I agree, to say ballet is graceful is so understated.
