I enjoy looking at old cars, I mean those from the early 20th century. Doing that in the open air on a nice day by the seaside is even more enjoyable. Cruise Night is a series organized by the Greater Warwick Lions Club, and we have been to several over the years 2019, 2018, and 2016. The show is on every Tuesday starting around 5 PM and lasting until sunset. I think they only have a few more weeks left if that.

Cruise Night, Oakland Beach
Oakland Beach is one of the shore towns in Warwick. There is a stretch of beach open to the public. Behind that is a park area where the old cars line up with old-time music blasting, and people enjoy the ocean breeze as they admire some oldies like Fords, Chevys, and the like.
There have been no Cruse Nights because of the pandemic. I looked up to see if they came back. Sure enough, they started in May 2023, and one was coming up. The weather also promised to be comfortable and not humid.
Friends Joined Us
Our friends Mike and Noreen picked us up around 4:30 PM last Tuesday, and we drove to Oakland Beach, our second visit to the Cruise Night with them. We were also lucky to find a handicapped parking slot at the beginning of the visitor parking area. It had a similar feel and air to the previous ones, with music, a pizza truck, and old cars and trucks lined up.
Fewer Cars, Trucks
We slowly walked to the other end, passing by some cars I remember seeing and photographing before. This time, there seemed to be fewer cars and fewer memorable ones. The row of Corvette’s were mostly newer models, and an old 1957 or so Corvette was by itself. Its owner was gently dusting the shiny black finish on the curvy fenders practically nonstop!
We made the loop and returned to the starting point in about 40-50 minutes. I was slightly tired; we sat on a park bench and waited for Mike to finish the loop and return. Jan was a bit tired as well, but Noreen was chugging along.
Dinner at Iggy’s Boardwalk
After Mike returned, we slowly walked to Iggy’s Boardwalk restaurant, enjoyed their local flavors, and talked about photography. After dinner, they dropped us back at home, we said goodnight and got inside.
After a day or so, I edited my collection. This past weekend, I loaded Jan’s photographs. After I was done, I looked at the previous visit photographs on the site and saw some of them to be almost a replica of each other!

Haluk Atamal
Denying “İki cambaz bir ipte oynamaz” as we say in Turkish, these beautiful shots made me wonder whose were better. I found out that the common denominator of reflecting love for photography belies such a comparison.
Thanks for sharing Cemal, and best regards to you both.
Take care!
