The Festival Ballet Providence ballerina Vilia Putrius and I started a project early in 2013 to photograph twelve dancers acting the part from twelve ballets in settings that fit the storylines, off stage.
Ballet Off Stage is Born
Later, I named the collection Ballet Off Stage, and the photographs were shown in an exhibit at the Festival Ballet Providence studios as a fundraiser for the company. The 24 photographs were my gift to the company. The project took us to many different parts of Rhode Island; from a small wooded area in Barrington to the windmill in Middletown; from an old mill in Pawtucket, to several historic houses in Pawtuxet Village; from a lake in Johnston, to the Swan Point Cemetery, and more.
You can read more about this project on a dedicated post, written around the time of the exhibit.
