Another Day At Dave’s

August 6, 2019 by A. Cemal Ekin
Aid for everything

Things are getting back to normal and I am picking up the camera again. At least when I can find a cool place to photograph, both subject wise and the temperature I mean. Dave’s Supermarket where Jan does the grocery shopping has been a place you are getting to know. It is an inviting place to visit even if you are not shopping. Add to that their excellent quality fruits and vegetables, it becomes even more inviting.

I took Jan for shopping last week again and took my camera with me. As usual, I declared at the service desk that I was going to take photographs and the young man had to check with the manager on the phone. After getting the OK from the manager, he told me to go ahead, I was OK to take photographs. If needed, I have an e-mail from their headquarters on my phone to pull up and show.

As I went by the leaf and root vegetable shelves, a very petite woman asked me if I could grab the lettuce from the top shelf which I gladly did. She carefully checked the leaves and saw some she did not approve. By that time, Jan arrived and they continued to pick the best lettuce on the shelf. Later, Jan told me that the woman was 93 years old and played tennis every week! More power to her, she sure looked in very good shape. Old but in very good shape.

I chose a shelf of radishes for their color and tangled tap roots. A kind of lettuce, I think, put up on its base looked interesting. Maybe it was escarole. Anyway, I photographed that and moved on. I took several photographs of onions, I think I will select a few good specimens and study them at home next time. Bell peppers come in a variety of colors and they put on a good show, click!

You may remember the Imagine brand soup boxes from an earlier post. This time, I found large and small boxes for small and large brains I suppose! On the way out, I noticed the canned and bottled drinks. One bunch was a series of AIDs, FocusAID, ImmunityAID, and of course LifeAID! A few Fanta cans caught my fancy before moving on and noticing a bunch of bottles telling in unison Bai, Bai, Bai, … so, bye-bye! Be well!

      I am so glad that you could see the onion colors, Jim. At least their opaqueness. You should visit a supermarket with your camera.

    Merhaba Cemal hocam;
    Günlük yaşamdan çok güzel fotoğraflar sundunuz. Bunlar hayat ve insanlar ile olan güzel ilişkinizin tezahürü olsa gerek. Tenis oynayan fit kadını merak ettim.
    Saygı ve selamlarımla.

      Merhaba Ramazan. Evet, bunlar yasamin birer parcasi. Bir dizi de “Ordinary Places” fotografi sunmustum epeyce once, gunluk yasamin onemil parcalari olarak. Hosuna gidebilir. Tenis oynayan kadin, hani 145-150 cm boyunda, yasli oldugu belli ama cok dinc bir kadindi. Fakat o kadar yasli oldugunu tahmin edemezdeim, hele tenis oynadigini!

    Beautiful photos, Cemal. Onions are just great.
    I would take away the accidentally stuck small stickers on the wooden part of the bell peppers stand :)
    Take care!
