Since our visit to the American Girl store for lunch, we have continued to enjoy the visit of our girls. We watched movies, they went to visit with friends to the beach, and yesterday we had a few friends for a cookout. Jim Janecek and Carol, Jim Turner and Mary, and Dennis came, unfortunately, Chris could not come with Dennis and we missed her. After they came from the beach Mina took a shower and Elif tied her hair in a nice bun. Wearing a nice dress she posed for photographs in the back yard and looked positively charming as you will see.
Elif and Mina went to Buttonwoods beach in Warwick City Park. I had not been there before until I drove them to meet Elif’s friend and her kids. With some level of embarrassment, I must admit I was very pleasantly surprised. Its length is about 1 mile and width, a little under a half-mile. For my readers in Turkey, it is about 1,500 by 750 meters. that makes it about three times the size of Istanbul Yildiz Park and about 35 times the size of the famous Gezi Park. This is one of about 15 similar parks, beaches, playgrounds we have in Warwick which occupies about 50 square miles (about 130 square kilometers.) Some good statistics to brag about our little city of 82,000 population.
I went back to the Buttonwoods beach to pick up Elif and Mina a little after 3 PM. After coming home, taking showers, and Mina being my model for a short session, the cookout preparations continued. Earlier I had picked up some wine and beer, and around 4:30 PM I went and got a couple of bags of ice for the cooler. Mina helped with opening the bags and pouring the ice. Afterward, we lined up the bottles on the ice.
First Jim J and Carol arrived, then came Dennis without Chris, finally Jim T and Mary arrived. After everyone settled with a glass in hand Jan started putting the burgers on the grill. Jim T and Dennis were there to help her since my grilling skills are very slim! We all enjoyed the burgers, various salads, and appetizers, chewed the fat. Jan went in to put some coffee on and a little later Jan, Elif, and Mina came out with the apple pie Jan had baked with two candles on it 73 and a few bags of birthday gifts for me. It was a total surprise to me since it was days from my actual birthday. Since Elif and Mina would leave and not be here on my birthday, this was a double surprise to me. I got a couple of much-needed hats, a cold brew coffee maker, a nice book, a remote-control for my phone, and a butterfly bush! Mind you, I am also wearing a shirt Mina and Elif brought for my birthday and had given to me several days ago! Thank you, Jan, Elif, Mina; and thank you all my friends being an unwitting party to the plans and spending time with us on my surprise birthday.
Here are the photographs from yesterday.
