Delightful Istanbul Weather
The next couple of days in Istanbul after we arrived on October 6, the delightful weather gave us a chance to enjoy the garden, relax, and then visit our friends Aytac and Cem for a great dinner. The real treat there was meeting Haluk and Turkan in person for the first time. On the way to their house, we drove on the freeway peppered with high-rise towers and cranes.
On Sunday, Emre came to visit us, and we all went to visit our friend Oya at her new apartment. The tidy flat was quite pleasant, and the view from a couple of windows did not disappoint. The construction cranes were visible in different directions.
After a short stop there, we all went to Yusuf Usta’s Kebab house. In mid-afternoon, the place was quiet, and we enjoyed very good service and great food. You can see some variety on the table, the Adana kebab was the prime attraction. I enjoyed it all and drank pickled turnip juice (trust me, it is quite nice despite the description!)
On the way back, Jan and I decided to walk the short distance from the nearby Acibadem Hospital construction back home. Last year, earth-moving trucks and crazy drivers used to block the traffic circle. This year, the earth-moving trucks were not there. The gigantic hospital construction dwarfed the decent size school building across the street. On the way back we noticed the completed apartment buildings, a few stray cats, and then returned home.
More to come …
