Touching The History Exhibit at BU

My collection of photographs taken from the dome of Hagia Sophia is making a third stop. After Cleveland and Providence, they will be on exhibit at The Howard Thurman Center of Boston University between November 1 – 19, 2010. A reception with a gallery talk is scheduled for November 12, 2010, 6 – 8 pm with the gallery talk being around 6:15 pm.

If you wanted to see the photographs and did not get a chance, and you happen to be in Boston on November 12, 2010 just drop by.

If you have visited this site a few times you probably know about my experience in the dome of Hagia Sophia. I have written a few post about it, presented photographs and videos, issued a limited edition folio, and had three photography exhibits featuring the unseen corners of the Great Church. In my continuing efforts to share this experience and the magnificent views of this monument I have prepared a 28-page magazine/expanded catalog that includes all the photographs in the exhibits and a written narrative of my experience. The opening reception of my exhibit, Touching The History: Photographs From The Dome Of Hagia Sophia, was well attended and highly enjoyable for me. I hope those who were there enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed sharing my experience with them. Thanks Ted and Dennis for recording the event; will have photographs and video footage which I will share. Touching The History: Photographs From The Dome Of Hagia Sophia

Dates: September 8 – October 22, 2010

Location: Providence College Hunt-Cavanagh Art Gallery

Gallery hours: 9 AM – 4 PM Monday-Friday

Opening reception: September 16, 2010 5 – 7 PM, Gallery talk at 5:30 and 6:15 PM

I have had many inquiries about the beautiful music that accompanies both slide shows. The first one is liturgical music. The CD is called “La Gloire de Byzance” and the track used in the show is #11, “Bénis le Seigneur, ô mon âme (Psaume 122, 1-22)” beautifully performed by Divna Ljubojevic. You can find the CD at Amazon.com.

The music of the second slide show is from a CD by Ihsan Ozgen, titled “Anatolia“. The musical pieces are solo ney and violoncello. The publisher is Kalan Muzik in Istanbul, Turkey.

Below is a show that integrates all the photographs in the exhibit as well as the two video presentations at the end.
