You being in a Mac environment may also add more variables. Removing the IIS installation in my case fixed the problem at that time. Unfortunately Adobe support will not be of much help, or at least they were not to me then. You are encountering this problem (I am speculating here) because the installation wants to add Flash plugin to IE. Try not installing Flash component and see if that helps. I feel for you.
