Avoid Using Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer Vulnerability and Hack

A new threat has been discovered that makes Internet Explorer users vulnerable. Microsoft acknowledged the problem and is working to issue a fix. However, Windows XP will not get any fix other than upgrading to Windows 7 or 8.

You can take a few precautions:

  1. Do not use Internet Explorer, any version. Download and use Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari
  2. If you must use Internet Explorer disable Flash in the browser

The vulnerability allows a hacker to gain full access to the computer, add new users with full privileges, install programs, and delete files. This is a serious problem and I highly recommend that you take steps to protect your computer.

Do you know if up-to-date virus/malware programs are able to detect and isolate this hacking?

Mike, my understanding is that this is not a virus kind of vulnerability but an open door through which hackers can walk in. If you really want to use IE, remove Flash from it. Better yet, get Firefox or Chrome and sleep better at night.
